Rhizopogon truncatus, perhaps the loveliest "Pogey" in the Pacific Northwest, often forms
mats of bright yellow mycelium in the soil. It occurs with true firs (Abies) in alpine regions.
Note the prominent basal rhizomorphs: The name Rhizopogon translates from Greek to
mean "Bearded Root".
